Joined to the Paradiski ski area back in 2005, Les Arcs is a resort that has moved from strength to strength in recent years. Located up the hill from the Tarentaise town of Bourg St Maurice, the resort itself actually consists of a four different settlements named after their altitudes, and all of which vary quite considerably in character. Arc 1600, the lowest of the three, is known for its tree lined slopes and chalet based accommodation; Arc 1800, popular with party goers, offers predominantely self catering apartments in typical brown and orange 1970s glory. The heart of the Les Arcs, Arc 1950 is a modern, well presented purpose built village, created by Canadian group Intrawest. The last village in the line, Arc 2000, is remote, built in a simlar style as Arc 1800, and generally popular with the kind of ski-in ski-out crowd who prefer direct access to the higest terrain. Nearby Vallandry and Peisey also offer small village atmospheres and easy access to the Les Arc/Paradiski ski area.
