You would be forgiven for thinking that
Les Deux Alpes, (literally translated as 'two Alps'), is a name derived from mountains surrounding this popular resort. In fact, it comes from Venosc and Mont de Lan, the two villages sitting either end of plateau on which the resort was built. Les Deux Alpes is situated at the heart of the
Oisans region, where the Northern and Southern Alps meet on the edge of the Ecrins National Park. Offering varied terrain and high altitude glacier skiing throughout the year, Les Deux Alps is a magnet for skiers and snowboarders looking for their share of white stuff out of season. During summer, the resort attracts a whole range of outdoor enthusiasts, including mountain bikers, climbers and walkers, who come in their droves to make the most of the magnificent surroundings. In terms of architecture, the resort may be a mishmash of 1960s kitsch and over enthusiastic modernity, but who cares about physical identity problems when so much is available out of doors.
