 Another of France's most popular ski resorts, Val d'Isere has become synonymous with expensive taste, Brits abroad, and on the plus side, great skiing. Nouveau riche aside; a great snow record, broad range of accommodation, good provision for families and some of the best nightlife to be had in the French Alps, it's no wonder people still flock here year on year. Linked to the Espace Killy ski area, Val d'Isere offers access to over 300 kilometres of downhill pistes, virtually limitless off piste opportunities and skiing on the Grande Motte glacier in Tignes. The village itself, which has seen a great deal of modern development in recent years, still manages to cling to its Savoyard heritage in part. At it's centre traditional stone and wood style chalets radiate from the 17th century church, which is dedicated to Saint Bernard de Menthon, the patron saint of mountain dwellers. Val d'Isere is also made up of the nearby hamlets of La Daille, Le Cret, Le Joseray and La Legettaz, Le Chatelard, Le Laisinant and Le Fornet.
